[NEWS UPDATE] – Antenna assembly begins on Crozet. Currently, activity not expected before the weekend.
[DECEMBER 20 @ 1530z] – It’s a work in progress, but the picture shows Thierry’s radio room. The DX world eagerly awaits his first signals, and of course his callsign !
I’ve been on the base since this morning (its 11:18 here) and the trip on the Marduf went well and just a little woozy twice. I got acquainted with the future shack which is fine, just 2 or 3 things to check for interference with equipment in the room but hey, that should do it. I should sleep in the same building, I just have to go outside and walk 10m to go to my room, which should do it there too. On the antenna side, if we can do it as I think, that will be very good.
It’s very crowded here because there are a lot of people on the base, but INFRA will take care of me on Thursday. A base is on a small mound which puts the foot of the mast 2 or 3m from the roof of the building where I am and there is everything to guy and pull the Levy.
The shack is in the basement facing the mast so 10 to 15 m of coax at most to pull, the clearance is great at 360° and the dish should pass without worry above the roof of the building located at 330° towards OQ-100. All the staff is very friendly and the amateur radio attracts a lot of questions. But already I can say that everyone knows who I am and is ready to help me. So, no traffic will start before the weekend.
I also had contact with the IPEV, it should be fine and the measurement fields are opposite the base. The famous Absolute Measure lasts about 20 minutes so it’s about 4.5 hours total, but I think there is a way to see it in detail. Anyway, I have to see the manager (who was with me on the boat) and the 2 technicians who will take the measurements to define an action plan.

[20 DÉCEMBRE @ 1530z] – C’est un travail en cours, mais la photo montre la salle radio de Thierry. Le monde DX attend avec impatience ses premiers signaux, et bien sûr son indicatif !
Je suis sur la base depuis ce matin (il est 11h18 ici) et le voyage sur le Marduf s’est bien passé et juste un peu patraque deux fois. Je me suis familiarisé avec la future cabane qui est bien, juste 2 ou 3 choses à vérifier pour les interférences avec l’équipement dans la salle mais bon, ça devrait le faire. Je devrais dormir dans le même immeuble, je n’ai qu’à sortir et marcher 10m pour aller dans ma chambre, qui devrait le faire là aussi. Côté antenne, si on peut faire comme je pense, ce sera très bien.
Il y a beaucoup de monde ici car il y a beaucoup de monde sur la base, mais INFRA s’occupera de moi jeudi. Une base est sur un petit monticule qui met le pied du mât à 2 ou 3m du toit du bâtiment où je suis et il y a tout pour haubaner et tirer le Levy.
La cabane est en sous-sol face au mât donc 10 à 15 m de coax maxi à tirer, le dégagement est grand à 360° et la parabole doit passer sans souci au dessus du toit du bâtiment situé à 330° vers OQ -100. Tout le personnel est très sympathique et la radio amateur attire beaucoup de questions. Mais déjà je peux dire que tout le monde sait qui je suis et est prêt à m’aider. Ainsi, aucun trafic ne commencera avant le week-end.
J’ai aussi eu un contact avec l’IPEV, ça devrait aller et les champs de mesure sont en face de la base. La fameuse mesure absolue dure environ 20 minutes donc c’est environ 4h30 au total, mais je pense qu’il y a moyen de la voir en détail. Quoi qu’il en soit, je dois voir le manager (qui était avec moi sur le bateau) et les 2 techniciens qui prendront les mesures pour définir un plan d’action.
