Fresh info are coming day by day; WAP is pleased to spread them up and share what we are receiving from our Ham friends.

Neumayer III Station WAP DEU-Ø8:

Felix DL5XL send some more details on the German activity.

DPØGVN is currently active with operator, Karsten DM2KX, a member of the 2022 wintering team. He will be followed by Markus DK7DA who will stay for the entire winter of 2023.

DP1POL is not active right now;  Felix will be active during the Antarctic summer, from mid-December 2022 to the end of January 2023, as DP1POL as usual. QSL routes have not changed: DPØGVN via DL5EBE, DP1POL via DL1ZBO.

DPØPOL/mm is also on the air irregularly from I/B Polarstern. Operators are Andy DL3LRM and Jörg DJ0HO. There is regular activity from DPØGVN and DP0POL/mm on QO-100 satellite, see https://amsat-dl.org/en/dp0pol-mm-permanently-accessible-via-qo-100/ for the latest news.

Answering the question about Gondwana Station (WAP DEU-Ø4) and Dallmann Laboratory  (WAP DEU-Ø7 QSL aside), Felix said:

«Gondwana is operated by BGR, it has absolutely no connection to our Institute. Dallmann will be closing down permanently soon, so I do not think there is a chance to activate those!»

India: Antarctic campaign 2022-2023

VU2CUW , Sarabjeet S. “Sarab” Chhabra , 25 years old electronics and communications engineer currently working as a design engineer for a CNC Machinist  is joining the Indian Antarctic campaign 2022-2023.
VU2CUW  got his Amateur Radio Operator License in 2015 and since then he  have been very active on VHF, UHF and HF managing Radio Nets.

Sarab  designs and homebrew antennas and has done a lot of field operations. He also worked on a satellite building project during one of his jobs at Hyderabad where he was working as a RF Engineer.

We expert to work VU2CUW who have already applied for a special callsign to be used while in Antarctica.

At the moment it has not been decided to which Base (Maitri  WAP IND-Ø3 or Bharati WAP IND-Ø4) he will operate from.

DP1POL n’est pas actif en ce moment ; Felix sera actif pendant l’été antarctique, de mi-décembre 2022 à fin janvier 2023, en tant que DP1POL
comme d’habitude. Les routes QSL n’ont pas changé : DPØGVN via DL5EBE, DP1POL via DL1ZBO.

« Le Gondwana est exploité par BGR, il n’a absolument aucun lien avec notre Institut. Dallmann va bientôt fermer définitivement, donc je ne pense pas qu’il y ait une chance de les activer ! »

Inde : Campagne Antarctique 2022-2023

‘Sarab’ Chhabra , ingénieur en électronique et communication de 25 ans travaillant actuellement comme ingénieur de conception pour un machiniste CNC  rejoint la campagne antarctique indienne 2022-2023.
VU2CUW a obtenu sa licence d’opérateur radio amateur en 2015 et depuis lors, il a été très actif sur les réseaux radio VHF, UHF et HF.

Sarab  conçoit des antennes homebrew et a effectué de nombreuses opérations sur le terrain. Il a également travaillé sur un projet de construction de satellites pendant l’un de ses emplois à Hyderabad, où il travaillait en tant qu’ingénieur RF.

Nous sommes experts pour travailler avec VU2CUW qui ont déjà demandé un indicatif spécial à utiliser en Antarctique.

Pour le moment, il n’a pas été décidé à quelle Base (Maitri  WAP IND-Ø3 ou Bharati WAP IND-Ø4) à partir duquel il opérera.

[NEWS UPDATE] – With the team now approaching 50K QSOs, co-leader Jean-Luc F1ULQ mentions that today D60AE had a QSO with a school children in Sarralbe, France (callsign F6KFT/P).

OCTOBER 11: Except on 10m, propagation conditions were less good today. On the other hand, it can’t be perfect every day. We had several power outages. The generator takes over but not instantly, and it’s the same when the mains returns. We also avoided the start of a fire because of a wall socket which was overheating and whose strong smell of burning fortunately alerted us.

OCTOBER 12 [2] – Following on from earlier update, both ops now arrived in Benin and heading to the QTH in a small!

OCTOBER 12 [1] – RA1ZZ & RW8A (OK8AU) arrived at Addis Ababa airport early this morning (local time), and are now waiting for the flight to Benin:

RA1ZZ & RW8A

[OCTOBER 10] The TY0RU team is ready for trip. More than 600 kg of equipment is ready at the base in Moscow. Two team members (RW8A and RA1ZZ) will be in Benin as early as October 12 to check the QTH for local QRM, expect signals then. Included in baggage:

• 7 stations (transceivers, interfaces, laptops, amplifiers).
• 23 antennas.
• more than 1 km of 50 Ohm coaxial cable.
• more than 1 km of rope for guying masts.
• approximately 1 km of untwisted cable for beverages.
• more than 2 km of untwisted twisted wire for radials.

[AUGUST 25] The Russian DXpedition Team who gave you A25RU, 7Q5RU, 7Q7RU, 7P8RU, E44RU and others plan activity from Benin as TY0RU during October 10-25.

• 11 October 2022 – Two Team members fly out to check QTH for interference.
• 13 October 2022 – Expedition start. The main part of the Team gathers in Moscow and flies to Benin.
• 14 – 26 October 2022 – Installation of working positions, start of work on the air.
• 27 October 2022 – QRT, folding positions, preparing for the departure of the team home.

12 OCTOBRE [1] – RA1ZZ & RW8A (OK8AU) sont arrivés à l’aéroport d’Addis-Abeba tôt ce matin (heure locale) et sont maintenant en attendant le vol pour le Bénin :

[10 OCTOBRE] L’équipe TY0RU est prête pour le voyage. Plus de 600 kg de matériel sont prêts à la base de Moscou. Deux membres de l’équipe (RW8A et RA1ZZ) seront au Bénin dès le 12 octobre pour vérifier le QTH pour le QRM local, attendez-vous alors à des signaux. Inclus dans les bagages :

• 7 stations (émetteurs-récepteurs, interfaces, ordinateurs portables, amplificateurs).
• 23 antennes.
• plus de 1 km de câble coaxial de 50 ohms.
• plus de 1 km de corde pour haubaner les mâts.

• 11 octobre 2022 – Deux membres de l’équipe s’envolent pour vérifier les interférences de QTH.
• 13 octobre 2022 – Début de l’expédition. Le gros de l’équipe se rassemble à Moscou et s’envole pour le Bénin.
• 14 – 26 octobre 2022 – Installation des postes de travail, début des travaux à l’antenne.
• 27 octobre 2022 – QRT, positions pliantes, préparation du départ de l’équipe à la maison.
