FEBRUARY 19, 2019 — Mika, RI1ANY (and R2AUR/MM) is currently voyaging around Antarctica visiting several scientific bases along the way. He has planned visits to Maitri Antarctic Research Station (India) and Novolazarevskaya Antarctic Station (Russia) and will be active when time permits on HF bands, SSB only. More info here & here

NOVEMBER 24, 2018 — With the the 3Y0I Bouvet Island team now assembled and carrying out final preparations for their upcoming DXpedition, look for them to sign E51DOM/MM once leaving Cape Town, South Africa. They will also provide a live tracking link to view their progress. QRX for more once the team depart.

One of the little extras for the trip was to get a special event call sign. ZL9CNB – The ZL9 prefix is specific for the Auckland Sub-Antarctic Islands. As there are no permanent residents on these islands, the ZL9 call is seldom heard and only if Hams mount special expeditions – from memory there was an attempt about 7 years ago and they were unable to operate as they couldn’t get here because of the weather.
MARCH 4, 2019 – Earlier today (0830z), ZL9CNB/MM was spotted on the DX clusters. This is Dr Charles Bradfield from Auckland, New Zealand who is currently sailing in a yacht (SV Vingilot) offshore Auckland Island near to Enderby Island OC-074. He has special permission to visit the Auckland Islands but as yet it’s unknown if he will land and QRV. Track the yacht here.

L’un des petits extras du voyage consistait à obtenir un indicatif d’événement spécial. ZL9CNB – Le préfixe ZL9 est spécifique aux îles sub-antarctiques d’Auckland. Comme il n’ya pas de résidents permanents sur ces îles, l’appel ZL9 est rarement entendu et seulement si Hams organise des expéditions spéciales – de mémoire, il ya eu une tentative il y a environ 7 ans et ils ont été incapables de fonctionner car ils ne pouvaient pas arriver ici à cause du Météo.
4 MARS 2019 – Plus tôt dans la journée (08h30), ZL9CNB / MM a été repéré sur les clusters DX. C’est le Dr Charles Bradfield d’Auckland, en Nouvelle-Zélande, qui navigue actuellement dans un yacht (SV Vingilot) au large de l’île d’Auckland, près de Enderby Island OC-074.
