[NEWS UPDATE] Apparently, reported elsewhere, the DXpedition to Banaba has been postponed due to Covid.
[DECEMBER 21, 2022] Both callsigns have now been delisted from QRZ.com. We currently have no info as to why. As at 20z yesterday (December 20) they were showing on the database. A mystery !
[NOVEMBER 11] Norbert, DF6FK got in touch to say that he and Judith DL2ZAD will be active from Banaba as T33BB and T33BA respectively between January 12-24, 2023. QRV on HF bands. More info to follow..
PS: Ops may recall KH5/DF6FK & KH5/DL2ZAD from 1999.

Petrel Base (
As of November 2022 Petrel became once again a permanent Base. A team of 18 is still there to carry out the necessary works to restore the infrastructure throughout the year. Another goal is to build a 1800 meters main runway and a secondary 1300 meters secondary runway where the Hercules C130 or smaller aircraft can operate. In addition personnel will carry on hydrographic studies to determine the most suitable location for the construction of a dock that will allow operations with shipload.
