[NEWS UPDATE] – The team departed Perth on schedule at 1230 local time. Unfortunately, they got half way to Cocos Keeling when the captain announced they were returning to Perth due to tropical storms to the north.

The airline has advised that they’ll try to reschedule the flight for Wednesday, 26 October.

New update tomorrow with further news. Hopefully good news. For now team are drinking a beer in a Perth hotel bar.

[OCTOBER 23] – QSL manager EB7DX informs LoTW certificates already received and will be uploaded immediately after the DXpedition. Meanwhile, a further update by the team:

Our agent advises that our sea cargo shipped to Cocos has arrived at its destination. Final preparations are now under way in Melbourne and Perth for the team’s departure from Perth on 25th October.

The NA – Cocos Keeling path is notoriously difficult. We are therefore committed to investing extra time and effort to secure as many QSOs as possible from this part of the world.

The team members look forward to contacting as many of you around the globe as possible. We will do our best to provide news updates as often as we can.

[SEPTEMBER 29] – The following, recently posted on QRZ.com, is an update to the news we announced way back in December 2021:

[DECEMBER 8, 2021] Zeljko, VK6VY got in touch to say a team consisting VK6CQ, VK6SJ, VK6VY + possibly others will be active from Cocos Keeling Island as VK9CM during October 26 to November 3, 2022. QRV on 160-10m; maybe 6m. CW, SSB & FT8. Participation in the CQWW SSB contest (Oct 29-30) as VK9C. QSL via EB7DX.

NOTE: VK9CM callsign was previously used in 2011 by OH2YY.

[NEWS UPDATE] – L’équipe a quitté Perth comme prévu à 12h30 heure locale. Malheureusement, ils sont arrivés à mi-chemin de Cocos Keeling lorsque le capitaine a annoncé qu’ils retournaient à Perth en raison de tempêtes tropicales au nord.

La compagnie aérienne a indiqué qu’elle essaierait de reprogrammer le vol pour le mercredi 26 octobre.

Nouvelle mise à jour demain avec d’autres nouvelles. Espérons que de bonnes nouvelles. Pour l’instant, l’équipe boit une bière dans le bar d’un hôtel de Perth.

[23 OCTOBRE] – Le gestionnaire QSL EB7DX informe les certificats LoTW déjà reçus et seront téléchargés immédiatement après la DXpedition. En attendant, une autre mise à jour de l’équipe :

Notre agent informe que notre cargaison maritime expédiée à Cocos est arrivée à destination. Les derniers préparatifs sont en cours à Melbourne et à Perth pour le départ de l’équipe de Perth le 25 octobre.

Le chemin NA – Cocos Keeling est notoirement difficile. Nous nous engageons donc à investir du temps et des efforts supplémentaires pour obtenir autant de QSO que possible de cette partie du monde.

Les membres de l’équipe sont impatients de contacter autant d’entre vous que possible dans le monde. Nous ferons de notre mieux pour fournir des mises à jour aussi souvent que possible.

peut-être 6 m. CW, SSB et FT8. Participation au concours CQWW SSB (29-30 octobre) en tant que VK9C. QSL via EB7DX.

REMARQUE : L’indicatif d’appel VK9CM était précédemment utilisé en 2011 par OH2YY.

[UPDATE] Today, the bar of 100,000 QSOs was overcome, an intermediate goal was reached. On this occasion, work on the air was suspended for a short time and the entire team for the first time during the expedition gathered at the table to symbolically mark this event. We also congratulated Ilya R5AF on his baptism of fire. Unfortunately, tomorrow morning he will leave us and return to Moscow.

The on-air mode switches to light mode, but the expedition does not end there. The main task is to solve the issue of low frequency reception and in recent days to focus on work on these bands.

RW8A and R9LR also returned from Togo tonight. As a result of their trip, a suitable QTH was found for the second stage of the 5V7RU expedition and more than 100 QSOs were made via the QO-100 satellite.

OCTOBER 22 – In the morning RW8A and R9LR will head to Togo to find a suitable QTH and make sure there is no local interference. Also, Vladimir R9LR plans to be active via the QO-100 satellite with the expedition callsign 5V7RU, since he will not be able to be present during the main activation and will have to return home on October 25.

[UPDATE] Aujourd’hui, la barre des 100 000 QSO a été franchie, un objectif intermédiaire a été atteint. A cette occasion, le travail sur les ondes a été momentanément suspendu et toute l’équipe pour la première fois de l’expédition s’est réunie autour d’une table pour marquer symboliquement cet événement. Nous avons également félicité Ilya R5AF pour son baptême du feu. Malheureusement, demain matin, il nous quittera et retournera à Moscou.

Le mode on air passe en mode light, mais l’expédition ne s’arrête pas là. La tâche principale est de résoudre le problème de la réception des basses fréquences et, ces derniers jours, de se concentrer sur les travaux sur ces bandes.

RW8A et R9LR sont également revenus du Togo ce soir. À la suite de leur voyage, un QTH approprié a été trouvé pour la deuxième étape de l’expédition 5V7RU et plus de 100 QSO ont été effectués via le satellite QO-100.

22 OCTOBRE – Dans la matinée, RW8A et R9LR se rendront au Togo pour trouver un QTH approprié et s’assurer qu’il n’y a pas d’interférence locale. De plus, Vladimir R9LR prévoit d’être actif via le satellite QO-100 avec l’indicatif d’expédition 5V7RU, car il ne pourra pas être présent lors de l’activation principale et devra rentrer chez lui le 25 octobre.

W.A.P. Worldwide Antarctic Program

Fresh info are coming day by day; WAP is pleased to spread them up and share what we are receiving from our Ham friends.

Neumayer III Station WAP DEU-Ø8:

Felix DL5XL send some more details on the German activity.

DPØGVN is currently active with operator, Karsten DM2KX, a member of the 2022 wintering team. He will be followed by Markus DK7DA who will stay for the entire winter of 2023.

DP1POL is not active right now;  Felix will be active during the Antarctic summer, from mid-December 2022 to the end of January 2023, as DP1POL as usual. QSL routes have not changed: DPØGVN via DL5EBE, DP1POL via DL1ZBO.

DPØPOL/mm is also on the air irregularly from I/B Polarstern. Operators are Andy DL3LRM and Jörg DJ0HO. There is regular activity from DPØGVN and DP0POL/mm on QO-100 satellite, see https://amsat-dl.org/en/dp0pol-mm-permanently-accessible-via-qo-100/ for the latest news.

Answering the question about Gondwana Station (WAP DEU-Ø4) and Dallmann Laboratory  (WAP DEU-Ø7 QSL aside), Felix said:

«Gondwana is operated by BGR, it has absolutely no connection to our Institute. Dallmann will be closing down permanently soon, so I do not think there is a chance to activate those!»

India: Antarctic campaign 2022-2023

VU2CUW , Sarabjeet S. “Sarab” Chhabra , 25 years old electronics and communications engineer currently working as a design engineer for a CNC Machinist  is joining the Indian Antarctic campaign 2022-2023.
VU2CUW  got his Amateur Radio Operator License in 2015 and since then he  have been very active on VHF, UHF and HF managing Radio Nets.

Sarab  designs and homebrew antennas and has done a lot of field operations. He also worked on a satellite building project during one of his jobs at Hyderabad where he was working as a RF Engineer.

We expert to work VU2CUW who have already applied for a special callsign to be used while in Antarctica.

At the moment it has not been decided to which Base (Maitri  WAP IND-Ø3 or Bharati WAP IND-Ø4) he will operate from.

« Le Gondwana est exploité par BGR, il n’a absolument aucun lien avec notre Institut. Dallmann va bientôt fermer définitivement, donc je ne pense pas qu’il y ait une chance de les activer ! »

Inde : Campagne Antarctique 2022-2023

‘Sarab’ Chhabra , ingénieur en électronique et communication de 25 ans travaillant actuellement comme ingénieur de conception pour un machiniste CNC  rejoint la campagne antarctique indienne 2022-2023.
VU2CUW a obtenu sa licence d’opérateur radio amateur en 2015 et depuis lors, il a été très actif sur les réseaux radio VHF, UHF et HF.

Sarab  conçoit des antennes homebrew et a effectué de nombreuses opérations sur le terrain. Il a également travaillé sur un projet de construction de satellites pendant l’un de ses emplois à Hyderabad, où il travaillait en tant qu’ingénieur RF.

Nous sommes experts pour travailler avec VU2CUW qui ont déjà demandé un indicatif spécial à utiliser en Antarctique.

Pour le moment, il n’a pas été décidé à quelle Base (Maitri  WAP IND-Ø3 ou Bharati WAP IND-Ø4) à partir duquel il opérera.
